Rating The Best Halal Fried Chicken In Singapore

Source: Julaila Latiff

When you want to satisfy your fried chicken cravings, why not go to the best fried chicken there is in Singapore? There are not a lot of halal fried chicken options in Singapore, but we compiled the best five! Which of these local fried chickens will emerge as the ultimate halal fried chicken in Singapore?

We picked five local fried chickens to rate and the rating will be based on three things – crispiness, tenderness and flavour. The crispiness of the chicken skin is judged by how crunchy the first bite is while the tenderness of the chicken is based on how soft and juicy the meat is. On the other hand, the flavour rating is determined by how unique the taste of the chicken meat is on its own.

Here is what we found out:

Birdhaus

Birdhaus recently reopened their outlet at Redhill. Tucked in a small kopitiam near bike and car workshops, Birdhaus serves fried chicken with 5 different sauces. We ordered a two-piece chicken set that came with a generous serving of fries.

Before you even bite onto the chicken, you can already tell that it is crispy! We opted for a dry-rubbed Birdhaus signature flavour and a garlic parmesan sauce. You can hear a crunch when you bite onto the chicken skin!

Even though one of the chickens is covered in the garlic parmesan sauce, the chicken skin remained crispy after some time. The garlic parmesan sauce is definitely something you should try out!

Chic-A-Boo

Chick-A-Boo is certainly a place to get your comfort food. They offer original and spicy chicken but between the two, you should definitely go for the spicy one! We tried both the chicken and find that the spicy chicken had a kick to it.

The chicken skin is a lot crispier than the original one. At the same time, the chicken meat for the spicy chicken is also more flavourful and it has a kick to it. The spiciness of the chicken has a slow build-up, but you will come to love the flavour. Don’t forget to have your chicken with their delicious garlic chilli sauce!

The meal comes with two sides of your choice. You can choose from over 10 different sides! We recommend getting the fries and onion rings! Chick-A-Boo also features great cheese sticks and baked pasta/rice if you want something other than fried chicken and burgers!

Crispiness: 2.5/5

Tenderness: 3/5

Flavour: 3/5

Overall: 2.8/5

Hot Chix Chicken

Owned by our Singapore Idol, Taufik Batisah, Hot Chix Chicken is the first-ever Nashville Hot Fried Chicken joint in Singapore. While other places focus on different types of flavours for their chicken, Hot Chix specializes in spicy chicken that will make you sweat!

They have four spicy levels, and you can choose if you would like to try the dry rub or hot sauce. We picked the sauce because it sounds too good to resist. You would think that the chicken is not at all crispy after being doused in sauce, but some part of the chicken still remained crispy!

We chose a mild two-piece chicken set that came with a soft drink and a generous serving of fries. No matter what spice you choose, you will be able to taste how well marinated the chicken is!

Currently, Hot Chix is having a $9.99 lunch promotion that comes with fries and soda of your choice! You can also opt for Quorn meat instead of chicken for the burgers!

ToriGo!

ToriGo! is a relatively new Japanese-themed chicken joint under the Tenderfresh Group. Compared to the other restaurants on this list, ToriGo! offers more main course dishes rather than just chicken.

We opted for the two-piece chicken wings and was delighted that they came cut up which makes it easier for us to eat. The chicken skin was very crispy, and you will certainly enjoy the crunch! The chicken wings are a great go-to snack when you want to have some chicken but not have a meal.

Generally, people usually go to ToriGo! for their unique pasta and half spring chicken! You should order their udon and ricebowl if you want to try something new. Additionally, the prices are really affordable.

Crispiness: 3.5/5

Arnold’s Fried Chicken

If you are not yet familiar with Arnold’s Fried Chicken, you are missing out on one of the most OG fried chicken in Singapore. Anyone who loves Arnold’s chicken would recommend getting the spring or half spring chicken because it has one of the most consistent tastes with a great value for your money.

We went for the two-piece chicken that came with a soft drink, a side of fries and coleslaw. The chicken skin may not look as crispy compared to the other restaurant but do not let its look deceive you! The skin is crispy yet flavour.

However, the flavour does not stop there. The chicken meat itself has a distinct taste that really stands out. It is something that you will not get sick of! The meat is so tender that it breaks apart very easily, making it easier for you to enjoy the meal.

Crispiness: 4/5

Tenderness: 4/5

Overall: 3.8/5

Opening hours: Daily, 11 am – 9.45 pm
